Goth subculture arose on the heels of the punk scene in England in the late 1970's . Early Goth stylists namely Siouxsie Sioux of the band Siouxsie and the Banshees adopted a macabre and decadent look which included monochromatic clothing and a deathly pallor which became known as "death chic". The culture grew to include ideas of fetish, romanticized death, darkness and perverse sexuality. Androgynous styling was a common result of this eclectic mix of ideology as seen in the young boy at left and the couple below.
